About the role
Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is seeking a College Librarian to lead library services across multiple campuses. The ideal candidate will transform the student library experience, support student learning, and promote information literacy.
Responsibilities
- Oversee library collections, instruction, academic support services, and daily operations at multiple campus locations.
- Supervise library staff, tutors, and work-study students.
- Provide information literacy and research instruction through various formats.
- Coordinate library-based academic support services, including tutoring and research assistance.
- Collect, analyze, and report library usage and instructional data to support institutional effectiveness and accreditation.
- Manage and update the library's web presence and digital resources.
- Participate in professional organizations and present on information literacy, copyright, library services, and research tools.
- Support accreditation standards related to learning resources, student support services, and assessment.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic library services, including reference, research support, and information literacy instruction.
- Recent experience working with an Integrated Library System (ILS) and familiarity with Library of Congress classification and cataloging standards.
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting library and instructional data to support institutional effectiveness, accreditation, or strategic planning.
- Experience managing a library or learning resources budget, including collection development and fiscal oversight.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management of professional and/or paraprofessional staff, including student employees.
- Experience overseeing library operations across physical and digital environments, including facilities, collections, web presence, and instructional technologies.
- Knowledge of institutional, state, and national standards related to libraries, accessibility (ADA), copyright, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong communication, organizational, and technology skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders in a student-centered environment, and represent the library in institutional and external settings.
- Ability to support and coordinate services across multiple campus locations.
Qualifications
- Experience in a community college or multi-campus academic library setting.
- Documented experience delivering information literacy instruction in face-to-face and online formats.
- Experience supporting student success, retention, or learning support initiatives.
- Familiarity with accreditation, assessment, or institutional effectiveness processes.
- Experience managing digital library systems, web content, or electronic resource platforms.
- Knowledge of ADA accessibility standards as applied to library services and digital content.

Pay
$68,293.00 - $81,000.00 annually
Schedule
Monday through Friday, day hours; evenings and weekends as needed. Telework may be available on a limited basis, consistent with operational needs and supervisory responsibilities.
