100% Travel MCE Wind Technician II - Northeastern

This is a remote, hourly position requiring 100% travel across the South region. With overtime, travel, and supplemental earnings, MCE Technicians have the potential to earn over $100,000 per year.

About the role

As a Major Component Exchange/Repair Technician, you’ll be at the forefront of specialized wind turbine repair and optimization. Traveling to sites across the region, you’ll lead or support major component exchanges – ensuring minimal downtime and peak turbine performance. Your work helps keep turbines turning and communities powered.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety for everyone involved through:
    • Risk Assessment: Identify potential hazards before starting.
    • Protective Measures: Use appropriate gear, follow protocols, and maintain a safe environment.
    • Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations and standards to prevent accidents.
  • Perform major component exchanges including gearboxes, generators, and other critical systems.
  • Execute maintenance, minor to medium repairs, design modifications, retrofits, and special projects following established procedures.
  • Travel extensively to support turbine operations across multiple platforms and site conditions.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work.
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure a secure working environment.

Requirements

  • Prioritize safety above all else; follow established safety protocols, proactively identify hazards, and take action to prevent incidents.
  • Preferred wind turbine experience with hands-on MCE work.
  • Minimum one year of wind technician experience, or six months wind technician experience with a Wind Technician certificate/education, or 2 years of transferrable mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic experience.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting and executing major repairs on various platforms.
  • Comfortable with 100% travel and working in varied site conditions.
  • Collaborative mindset with a passion for solving complex challenges.
  • Physically fit, comfortable working in various conditions and at heights.
  • Ability to speak, read, and follow instructions in English.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent), a valid driver’s license, and legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.

Skills

  • Hands-on experience with major component exchanges (gearboxes, generators, etc.).
  • Mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting.
  • Adaptability to diverse turbine platforms and site conditions.

Pay

The base pay salary range for this position is $28.25 - $33.43/hr., with potential for additional variable compensation. Pay will be determined based on experience and qualifications. We are offering a $2,500 USD sign-on bonus for candidates with GWO BST, BTT, and ART certifications (eligibility requirements apply).

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Hearing ability to use telephones, radios, or related devices.
  • Visual acuity including depth perception, field of vision, and color distinction.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to climb stairs and vertical ladders to heights of 60 to 100 meters, including working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to observe training and obtain certification in safety programs (LOTO, Electrical Qualification, Fall Arrest & High Angle Rescue, Confined Space).
  • Ability to participate in controlled descent practical exercises.
  • Combined weight of employee, PPE, and gear must not exceed 300 lbs (PPE and gear may weigh up to 40 lbs).
