1 Year Contract Position: Long Term Substitute Teacher - Elementary School (26-27)

About the Role

Teach with purpose in a joyful, inclusive classroom community. This role involves daily lesson planning, intentional curriculum design, and regular data analysis to support all students' learning and growth. You will implement Social Emotional Learning lessons and Restorative Practices, collaborate closely with the school’s Leadership Team and Instructional Coach, and engage in ongoing professional development to refine instructional practices.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily math tutoring block: launch sessions, maintain routines, and ensure every student connects with a tutor within three minutes.
• Circulate constantly to monitor the room, handle tech and behavior issues, and cover students whose sessions do not occur.
• Ensure student safety by adhering to KIPP’s student safety and technology policies, including mandated reporter obligations.
• Track and troubleshoot daily attendance, session participation, logins, audio, and connection issues; escalate unresolved patterns.
• Review session reports weekly and communicate insights to classroom teachers, including observations the dashboard may miss.
• Maintain devices, headsets, chargers, session links, and rosters; flag equipment problems proactively.
• Serve as the school-side contact for scheduling, rosters, and day-to-day operations with the tutoring provider.
• Plan daily and long-term lessons using provided curriculum and resources aligned with KIPP’s academic vision.
• Analyze data regularly to identify student academic trends and inform instructional practices.
• Create and maintain a positive, warm, inclusive, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment using Restorative Practices and Social Emotional Learning.
• Implement culturally responsive classroom management strategies to ensure a safe learning environment for all students.
• Communicate regularly with staff, students, families, and stakeholders to build strong partnerships.
• Attend and engage in weekly Professional Development and Communities of Practice to continue growing as an educator.
• Update student records regularly, including attendance, grades, and behavior data.

Requirements

• Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• Obtain an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit.
• Commitment to KIPP’s mission and vision.
• Commitment to being an anti-racist educator.
• Belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels.
• Strong content area knowledge and skills in building relationships with students, families, and communities.
• Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.).
• Ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support in-class and distance learning (e.g., Zoom, Nearpod).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an educator teaching students with demographics similar to KIPP Public Schools Northern California’s student community.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands

• Physical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings, access and utilize technology, and occasionally lift/carry equipment (1-20 lbs). Physical agility to move in various positions (kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, bending, stooping, reaching overhead).
• Mental: Ability to manage deadlines, analyze problems, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods, read, calculate, perform routine math, and memorize/recall objects and people.
• Environmental: Work in a school and classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies.

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position on a school year calendar cycle, located at KIPP school sites. The role has an end date of June 30, 2027.

Pay

Bay Area Campus Substitute Salary: $65,050.00.
