About the Role
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Elementary Classroom Teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs, and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. The role involves providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Responsibilities
- Develops and administers elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; provides individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subjects specified in applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the educational field through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting of student activities, achievement, and attendance.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies, maintaining a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinates with other elementary professional staff to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, including those involving school transportation.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
Requirements
- Must hold certification in Early Childhood, Elementary 1-8, or Elementary K-6.
- Must be able to teach in a Dual Language Immersion program as an English partner.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
