1:1 PARAPROFESSIONAL – GUILMETTE MIDDLE SCHOOL (GRADES 5–8)

Position provides continuous, individualized support to a student with a documented medical need requiring adult supervision throughout the school day. The primary responsibility is to ensure the student's health, safety, and access to the school environment, in accordance with the student's medical plan and IEP/504.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant supervision of the assigned student across all settings, including classrooms, transitions, lunch, and arrival/dismissal.
• Implement the student's medical plan as directed by the school nurse and administration.
• Monitor for medical symptoms or safety concerns and respond according to established protocols.
• Maintain immediate communication with the school nurse and appropriate staff regarding any concerns or incidents.
• Support the student in safely navigating the school day, including movement between classes and participation in activities.
• Assist the student with organization, task initiation, and staying on schedule, as needed for access (not instruction).
• Follow all confidentiality requirements related to student medical information.
• Maintain accurate documentation/logs as required by the medical plan or school procedures.
• Support emergency procedures if needed, following training and school protocols.
• Support the student across multiple classes and settings throughout the day.
• Help manage transitions and schedule changes within a rotating middle school schedule.
• Promote the student's independence while ensuring safety—avoid over-support unless required.
• Maintain a low-profile presence to preserve the student's dignity and peer relationships.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher preferred (or ParaPro certification).
• Experience working with adolescents preferred.
• Experience with medical or health-related student support preferred (but not required; training will be provided).
• Ability to follow detailed protocols with consistency and accuracy.

Pay

$26.00–$31.00 per hour.
