About the role
The 1:1 Instructional Aide Special Education - Mild to Moderate assists a certificated teacher in providing instructional support, child/health care activities, and prescribed specialized one-on-one services to students with specific learning disabilities, severe emotional and behavioral issues, orthopedic disabilities, and other limiting conditions. The goal is to help students become independent learners.
Responsibilities
- Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students in an assigned special education program such as mainstreamed classes, general education classrooms, physical education, recess, and lunch.
- Provide personal care or health assistance to individual special education students in any setting to which they are assigned.
- Attend all required training to perform tasks required in individual plans.
- Assist students in understanding and comprehending classroom assignments; explain errors and answer questions to reinforce main lesson plans; assist students with problem-solving tasks, reading, English, and other assignments.
- Reinforce instruction to students with physical handicaps, medical conditions, learning disabilities, communication, and/or behavioral issues; confer with and take direction from teachers, counselors, psychologists, nurses, and administrators concerning programs and material.
