1.0 FTE 6th Grade Science Teacher - Pacific Crest Middle School - Temporary

About the Role

Bend-La Pine Schools is committed to the principle of equity, prioritizing the removal of barriers and promotion of inclusive practices to ensure all students fully benefit. The Classroom Teacher will motivate, assist, and guide student learning, including instruction, discipline, safety, and health under the supervision of the school. The role focuses on helping each student reach their potential for intellectual, physical, emotional, and psychological growth through appropriate instruction.

The Classroom Teacher reports to the school principal.

Responsibilities

• Identifies the needs of individual students through continuous assessment of their abilities.
• Uses identified student needs to plan and write instructional plans.
• Implements instructional plans using a variety of appropriate methods and materials.
• Manages the classroom to create optimal learning conditions.
• Applies learning theory to meet the needs of students.
• Evaluates and reports student progress.
• Assists with planning and conducting parent conferences.
• Participates in professional development activities.
• Provides plans for and supervises educational assistants.
• Supervises students in and out of the classroom.
• Initiates and maintains communication with colleagues.
• Assists in assessing building-level needs and planning to meet those needs.
• Attends meetings and serves on committees as directed.
• Fulfills all assigned responsibilities and related duties.

Working Conditions

• Work is primarily performed indoors in a classroom setting, with occasional outdoor supervision, school activities, or field trips.
• Requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and frequent movement throughout the instructional space.
• May involve lifting, carrying, or moving instructional materials or equipment.
• Exposure to moderate noise levels and a range of student behaviors while managing classroom dynamics.
• Participation in meetings, school events, conferences, and professional responsibilities outside the regular instructional day may be required.
• Requires sustained attention, instructional decision-making, classroom management, and ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues.
• Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

• Completion of coursework satisfying the requirement for issuance of a valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement in the designated assignment.
• Demonstrated ability to teach students through student teaching, internship, or temporary/regular teaching experience.
• Hold or be eligible to qualify for an Oregon Teaching License.
• Valid Oregon driver’s license and maintain insurable status for automobile and liability coverage, as required.
• Valid first aid card.

• Ability to read, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Proficiency in computer technology and school district policies and procedures.
• Ability to develop appropriate curriculum and interpret and comply with laws, rules, and policies.
• Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and the public.
• High standards of moral character and behavior, serving as an effective role model for students.
• Commitment to confidentiality and adherence to federal requirements for a drug-free workplace.
