Brief Description / Position Summary

Yorkville High School seeks a dynamic and passionate High School Educational Services (LBS1) teacher with experience in the classroom. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive learning environment, build rapport with students, parents, and staff, and assist in improving student achievement and growth.

About the Role

This position involves working collaboratively in professional learning communities to achieve goals with a common purpose focused on student learning. It requires developing short and long-range plans, preparing effective instructional strategies, and utilizing specialized materials and equipment for individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Understands issues in definition and identification procedures for individuals with disabilities, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Understands characteristics of individuals with disabilities across the age range, including levels of severity, multiple disabilities, and their influence on development, behavior, and learning
  • Prepares effective instructional strategies and resources for teaching the scope and sequence in the academic, social, and vocational curricular domains
  • Utilizes specialized materials, equipment, and assistive technology for individuals with disabilities
  • Prepares and utilizes assessment methodologies to adapt for individual students as appropriate
  • Plans and prepares for IEP and parent meetings
  • Implements strategies for assessing learning environments and conducting functional behavioral assessments within the environment
  • Creates a classroom culture which is a cognitively busy place, characterized by a shared belief in the importance of learning
  • Provides supervision of paraprofessional educators
  • Consults with teachers and therapists to plan for student's needs and required adaptations, modifications, and use of assistive/adaptive technology
  • Implements effective researched-supported instructional strategies for basic sequences of skills in the academic, social, and vocational curricular areas
  • Creates varied opportunities for all students to use effective written, verbal, nonverbal, and visual communication appropriate to each student
  • Chooses and implements instructional techniques and strategies that promote successful transitions for individuals with disabilities
  • Implements strategies for classroom management, including individual behavior management, crisis prevention, intervention, de-escalation techniques, and balancing classroom management with academic teaching strategies

Qualifications / Skills

  • Current Illinois Professional Educators License with LBS1 endorsement
  • Experience as a secondary special education teacher and/or special education support services (grades 9–12) provider preferred
  • Instructional leader with strong skills to promote the best educational development possible for each student
  • Strong, proven communication and people skills
  • Strong problem-solving techniques and strategies

Starting Salary

$51,612 /BS+0, year 1
