About the role

The Bookseller is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all customers in a friendly and helpful manner. They should be knowledgeable about books and other merchandise in the store, proactively seek to assist customers, and provide an outstanding shopping experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet each customer and provide the highest level of customer service, answering questions and assisting with orders.
• Efficient cashiering and balanced cash drawer following each register shift within allowable variances per the Loss Prevention Policy.
• Sell all products and promote point‑of‑sale initiatives, including Membership programs, Magazine for Millionaires program, Educator programs, and other company‑sponsored programs.
• Deliver and place product on the sales floor in accordance with merchandising guidelines and timelines.
• Recover the sales floor each shift by picking up items, shelving books and product, straightening bookshelves and tables, and performing store housekeeping tasks.
• Protect company assets by adhering to all loss‑prevention standards and acting with integrity in all transactions.
• Assist in other departments, receive shipments, assemble and maintain small fixtures, help with inventory, and maintain restroom cleanliness as needed.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older
• Successful completion of all required background screenings

Preferred Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to multi‑task
• Previous retail sales experience
• Computer and cash register skills

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
• Must be able to use hands/arms to operate a keyboard and telephone for repetitive motion activities
• Must be able to lift or team lift objects up to 50 lb., with or without assistance
• Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without an assistive device
• Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, or crouch while performing daily activities of the job
