About the Role

A Certified Medical Assistant at Panoramic Health performs both administrative and clinical duties, supporting the efficient operation of the medical office.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and performs check-in/check-out procedures accurately and timely.
  • Collects co-pays, outstanding balances, prints orders and educational materials, schedules procedures, obtains insurance and payment information, and verifies insurance eligibility.
  • Answers phone calls promptly, schedules appointments, and maintains assigned clinical inboxes in athenaClinicals electronic medical record system, adhering to Panoramic Health’s phone etiquette standards.
  • Rooms patients and completes full intake, including vitals, allergies, medication reconciliation, and recording vaccinations; assesses patient symptoms and conditions, recording all data in athenaClinicals.
  • Prioritizes responses to patient telephone calls and portal messages, consults with providers, and documents interactions appropriately.
  • Collects specimens and follows CLIA regulations.
  • Facilitates referrals to specialty care, imaging, or laboratory studies as ordered, coordinating with teams to ensure patient preparation.
  • Calls patients with test results or instructions as directed by providers.
  • Prepares for patient visits, readies lab work in charts, and makes reminder calls for lab work two weeks prior to appointments.
  • Scans and attaches medical records and administrative documents in athenaClinicals; reviews and processes incoming faxes and non-electronic labs.
  • Processes medication authorizations and refills; organizes drug sample closet and discards expired medications.
  • Reschedules patients using athenaClinicals’ automated appointment system, maintains waitlists, and schedules from waitlists when feasible.
  • Exercises sound judgment in challenging and stressful situations.
  • May train other medical support staff or students.
  • Performs other duties as required, assigned, or requested.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or equivalent certification organization.
  • Current CPR certification preferred.
  • At least 1 year of relevant medical assistant experience in a physician’s office.
  • Broad understanding of clinical operations and physician office practice.
  • Nephrology medical office or dialysis experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with athenaClinicals electronic health record.
  • Experience with secure clinical communication and billing applications such as PMD soft.
  • Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and patient privacy laws; maintains confidentiality of sensitive materials.
  • Ability to perform basic patient data entry in athenaClinicals and use Microsoft Office suite.
  • Basic knowledge of medical examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Compliance with all HIPAA, OSHA, Compliance, and IT standards and policies.
