Responsibilities
- Performs and supervises complex technical procedures for the detection, isolation and identification of infectious agents, including emerging pathogens and agents that could be used in a biological terrorist event.
- Performs and supervises the screening and supplemental testing on blood specimens for detection of sexually transmitted diseases, lead and other highly infectious agents, using molecular microbiology techniques (PCR).
- Validates and interprets laboratory test data; keeps records and prepares routine reports; orders supplies for laboratory; and maintains time and attendance.
- Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures; complies with safety rules and regulations while working in the laboratory.
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures on equipment and instruments; troubleshoots equipment problems using manuals and/or telephone consultations with equipment representatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Biological Science, preferably Microbiology, or in a job related field of study.
- Experience: Two (2) years of work related laboratory experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
