General Summary
The PreOp/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) at Phelps Health provides direct patient care, follows safety protocols, administers medications, teaches patients and families, documents care, communicates effectively, delegates tasks, and demonstrates critical thinking.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Follows established hospital policy for patient safety measures.
- Administers medications and provides nursing interventions.
- Makes initial and ongoing assessments to monitor patient status and communicate with healthcare team members.
- Documents patient care activities accurately and efficiently.
- Delegates tasks to team members while maintaining a supportive team environment.
- Communicates with patients and families in a timely manner to enhance their experience and promote learning.
- Performs delegated tasks to maintain quality and enhance patient safety.
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required.
Work Experience
- One year health care experience preferred.
Certification/License
- Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact State required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Considerable mental concentration required.
- Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities, and nearly constant walking required.
- Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
- Minimal physical discomfort.
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times.
- Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids.
