Biology Teacher
Takes Direction From: Building Principal and Curriculum Supervisors
- Schedule/Calendar: 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week, 191 days/year
Summary
A teacher shall be responsible for helping students learn subject matter and skills that will maximize their potential to develop into mature, capable and responsible adults.
Essential Functions
- Mets and instructs assigned classes in locations and times designated
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal/district office administrator
- Plans lessons that are differentiated in order to meet the needs of students and demonstrates alignment to the PA Core and approved courses of study
- Demonstrates understanding of the Danielson Framework and executes its implementation
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in conjunction with SLOs, establishes objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and technology, consistent with the needs and capabilities of student groups, in order to promote and nurture growth in learning
- Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
- Accurately assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
- Works to support the identification of students with special needs on an ongoing basis seeking the assistance of district specialists as required
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative procedure
- Aids the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure
- Maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
- Displays comprehensive understanding of technology and 21st century skills and their incorporation into instructional practice and methodology
- Assumes responsibility for continued professional growth development to include conference attendance, coursework, participation in PLCs, etc.
Education And/or Certification Required
- Bachelor's degree in Education
- PA teacher certification

Physical Requirements
