Zoological Park Maintainer, Carpentry Shop
About the role
The Zoological Park Maintainer, Carpentry Shop reports to the Operations and Maintenance Management and manages the Carpentry Shop. This position is located at the Bronx Zoo and is union, full-time.
Principal Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance, repair, upgrade, renovation and alteration of buildings, offices, exhibits, enclosures, equipment, structures and other facilities and specialized work with regard to woodworking, shopwork and general carpentry work utilizing all skills necessary to complete such assignment
- Execute all work requiring application of woodworking skills or pertaining to the carpentry field
- Prepare reports in work performed and materials used as required
- Conduct locksmith related work as required
- Clean and fulfill checks and preventive maintenance for vehicles, tools and equipment
- May perform ground maintenance work as required
- Will be required to respond to snow and storm related emergencies to assist with removal and clean-up operations during normal and off-normal business hours
- Perform related tasks and duties as required
Qualification Requirements
- A High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Three (3) years in carpentry work or carpentry allied technical field training
- Valid Driver License
- Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings
- Ability to respond to emergencies as required
- Must be able to work overtime as required
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- The position requires indoor work and outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Tasks require manual dexterity and the ability to safely use tools and equipment, including but not limited to ladders, hand tools (saws, drills, sanders, wrenches, ratchets, screwdrivers) etc., power tools (battery-powered and electric), and pneumatic (airpowered) tools such as impact guns, torque tools, grinders (including angle grinders)
- Some tasks require climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, stretching, navigating uneven terrain frequently
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds regularly with or without assistance

Pay
The salary range for this position is $53,997.
