z/OS Systems Engineer

Job Summary

Support and maintain enterprise mainframe infrastructure, primarily on z/OS systems. Perform installation, maintenance, and migration of z/OS products and related software in multi-LPAR environments. Manage software deployment using SMP/E and non-SMP/E methods, including PTF/APAR management and CSI/zone maintenance. Administer system datasets such as LINKLIST (LNKLST), APF-authorized libraries, and Parmlib members (IEASYSxx, IEAPARMxx). Execute z/OS release migrations and upgrades using CBPDO, ServerPac, SMP/E, and z/OSMF tools. Conduct pre- and post-migration validation, manage coexistence PTFs, and create rollback/fallback plans. Utilize z/OSMF for software deployment, instance management, workflow automation, and system health checks. Implement system changes following enterprise change management processes and perform impact analysis for system modifications. Conduct regression testing in multi-LPAR Sysplex environments after system-level changes. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, providing support for large-scale mainframe environments. Create and maintain documentation, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience with z/OS systems and related technologies.
  • Knowledge of SMP/E, PTF/APAR management, and CSI/zone maintenance.
  • Experience with z/OSMF for software deployment, instance management, workflow automation, and system health checks.
  • Experience with CBPDO, ServerPac, SMP/E, and z/OSMF tools for migrations and upgrades.
  • Experience with system datasets such as LINKLIST (LNKLST), APF-authorized libraries, and Parmlib members (IEASYSxx, IEAPARMxx).
  • Experience with regression testing in multi-LPAR Sysplex environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mainframe systems administration and support.
  • CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) certification preferred.
