About the role

The Mainframe Network System team supports connectivity within the mainframe environment and external networks. They handle multiple z/OS environments/systems, including stand-alone and parallel sysplex LPARs, in a high availability environment.

Responsibilities

Configuration and support of connectivity within the mainframe environment and external networks
Assignments to highly visible, sensitive and critical systems
Gathering documentation for research and problem resolution of z/OS connectivity issues
Customization, maintenance, and problem resolution for OEM or operating system network products and print solutions
Utilize and maintain tools such as Netview to monitor resources
Work with Users, Clients, and Business Partners to provide connectivity or to resolve issues
Provide 24x7x365 on-call support on a rotating basis
Evaluate, estimate, and provide recommendations for new clients
Maintain and provide documentation
Participate in disaster recovery and recovery tests
Perform work as a project team member for technical or operational projects
Identify and define business requirements for major projects
Communicate with internal teams and/or clients regarding problem solving, testing, and related activities
Create and modify REXX and CLISTs
Develop, document and implement standards, guidelines, direction and education on process/procedures for staff
Work independently with only administrative supervision on highly complex projects with extensive latitude for independent judgment

Qualifications

Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences in a group presentation setting
Self-motivating and able to work in a fast-paced environment and work on multiple tasks within the given timeframe
Able to function as a team member in a multi-group, multi-team member environment
Able to use Microsoft PC products like MS-Word and MS-EXCEL
At least 7 years programming experience in a technical environment
Able to perform the functions listed in job description
Able to use TSO/ISPF sufficiently
Proficient in configuration, maintenance, and diagnostics in z/OS Communication Server SNA and TCP/IP services
Knowledgeable in using SMP/e
Knowledgeable with OEM print products
Knowledgeable with OEM session management products
