General Purpose
Provide paid summer internships under the grant for DVRS Pre-Employment Transition Services.
Program Details
- Targeted for students currently enrolled in school ages 14 to 21 years of age.
- Summer 2021 internship duration: up to 6 weeks.
- Paid internship: up to 20 hours per week, paid bi-weekly.
Essential Functions
- Participate in work readiness classes prior to internship.
- Able to work for a business/community with minimal job support.
- Able to travel to and from internship location via public transportation or own means.
- Participate in job sampling for the first 3 days.
- Communicate any missed shifts to Skills Trainer.
- Develop employment, interpersonal, and professional relationships.
Qualifications
- High School Student between the ages of 14 to 21.
- Have an IEP, 504 plan, or medical documentation.
- Registered for DVRS (Hudson & Essex Counties).
Skills Required
- Communication skills.
- Ability to take care of daily living needs.
- Ability to communicate with Skills Trainer and Job Site Manager/Supervisor.
- Ability to travel.
- Able to be alone in the community.
Special Working Conditions
- Expected to work in the community.
- Able to meet job requirements in community businesses.
- Commit to 5 days for up to 6 weeks.
