About the role
The Youth Empowerment Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting youth aged 6-17 years old through various programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and retain youth to serve on the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)
- Coordinate YAC meetings and facilitate meetings
- Ensure YAC feedback is integrated into program design
- Serve as a YAC coordinator and liaison during the CYD Youth Summit
- Facilitate leadership curriculum for YAC and Youth Leadership Development participants
- Complete intake assessments and pre- and post-tests
- Coach, oversee, and support YAC and YLD social justice projects
- Train in and facilitate other program curricula
- Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants
- Participate in the annual Community Strengths and Needs Assessment process
- Abide by Positive Youth Development and Trust-Based Relational Intervention principles
- Work evenings and weekends as needed
Qualifications
- Required: Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field
- PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in social work, psychology, education, or a human services field
- Required: 2 years of experience working with youth aged 6-17 years old
- Valid Texas Driver’s license with a clear driving record and reliable transportation
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug tests
- Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request
- Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check
Skills
- Ability to respond sensitively and competently to diverse populations
- Effective communication skills in writing and verbal English
- Computer literacy required to meet job responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
