Youth Development Counselor (Per Diem)

Principal Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates fidelity to the agency’s service values and organizational imperatives.
  • Responsible for the full engagement of all residents in program on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all tasks associated with shift are completed prior to team’s departure, including incident reports, daily log, and log book.
  • Must debrief the incoming shift members each and every day without fail.
  • Follows the daily program schedule and facilitates activities as stated on the schedule.
  • Maintain a safe and presentable living environment that promotes a healthy and conducive living/learning space.
  • Provides individual and group counseling to assigned youth to address social, academic, and daily living skills.
  • Supports residents in completion of daily school assignments and supports residents in creating a daily routine of studying during and after-school.
  • Responsible for strategic positioning and engaged supervision of residents.
  • Maintain all relevant certifications including but not limited to a clean/valid driver’s license, SCM certification, etc.
  • As a member of the Support team, contributes to the formulation of individual behavioral plans for each resident through the submission of written reports and participation in meetings.
  • Supports the work of supporting departments (permanency planning, education, clinical, medical, etc.).
  • Ensure attendance to all mandatory trainings, including TCI, SCM and others as required.
  • Provides immediate therapeutic crisis intervention in order to provide structure and discipline in line with policies.
  • Adheres to agency discipline policy and implements the restriction system within the guidelines established.
  • Serves as a role model for residents maintaining values such as integrity, dignity, self-control, honesty, and self-respect.

Minimum Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • A valid driver’s license with strong communication skills.

Travel Requirements

  • This position may require travel between 2 to 3 residential programs located in Queens, Staten Island, or Brooklyn.
  • Travel to St. John’s administrative offices for meetings, trainings, etc. is also required.
