Youth Basketball Coach - Seasonal

About the Role

The City of Billings Parks, Recreation and Public Lands department is seeking a seasonal Youth Basketball Coach to demonstrate, instruct, and develop basic basketball-specific skills with participants in 3rd–5th grades. Equipment is provided.

Pay

$14.00 – $16.00 per hour.

Schedule

Girls Basketball Season: October 19, 2026 – December 5, 2026 (dates subject to change).
Boys Basketball Season: January 4, 2027 – February 13, 2027 (dates subject to change).
Practices: Monday & Wednesday evenings, possibly Tuesday or Thursday, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Games: Saturday mornings to early afternoon (4 game days).

Responsibilities

• Serve as a positive role model to players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches by following all rules and demonstrating good sportsmanship.
• Create planned practices and games at an appropriate level for each participant.
• Organize players to participate in games and ensure each child has an equal opportunity to participate in a safe and enjoyable environment.
• Act as a gym supervisor: set up and store equipment, monitor the gym, maintain facility cleanliness, and enforce facility rules.
• Report scores, issues, and updates to recreation staff promptly.
• Act as a gym supervisor and liaison for the Parks and Recreation department, overseeing the school facility.
• Operate timing devices and/or the official scorebook for the designated sport.

Requirements

• Basketball experience at the high school level or equivalent.
• Enjoy working with kids.
• Knowledge of basketball rules and bylaws preferred.
• Professional, confident, and capable of dealing with players, parents, and fans.
• Reliable transportation to and from games and training.
• Must meet minimum age requirements.
