About the role
The Yoga Instructor supports clients in recovery across OASAS facilities by leading trauma-informed yoga sessions designed to reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and promote physical well-being. This role blends traditional yoga instruction with an understanding of addiction recovery, creating a safe, empowering environment for clients.
Responsibilities
- Lead group yoga classes that are tailored to clients in various stages of recovery, ensuring each session supports grounding, mindfulness, and gentle physical movement.
- Use trauma-sensitive language, sequencing, and modifications to create a safe environment where clients feel empowered and in control of their practice.
- Encourage clients to adopt healthy routines, practice self-care, and develop positive coping strategies that support long-term recovery outside of group sessions.
- Track attendance for sessions to record progress and participation.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings if applicable and case conferences.
- Attend all required training.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
- Adhere to policies on time and attendance and is flexible with scheduling as needed.
- Perform other relevant duties as required.
Requirements
Education, Training, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Certified Yoga Instructor.
- Experience working in behavioral health, addiction treatment, or other therapeutic environments.
- Strong understanding of mindfulness practices and their role in recovery.
- Ability to adapt instruction for clients with physical limitations or emotional sensitivities.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and boundary-setting skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Proficiency with computer operation (Microsoft Word, Excel, AWARDS, and Outlook programs).
Qualifications
A 35-hour work week (as opposed to a 40-hour work week)
