About the role
Instruct group exercise classes according to the guidelines set forth by the YMCA of the USA and the Director of Group Exercise.
Responsibilities
- Congratulations to the YMCA of Greater Brandywine for being named a 2026 Top Workplace by The Philadelphia Inquirer for the third consecutive year.
- Conduct group exercise classes and provide assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous, and professional manner.
- Be a positive YMCA role model with an enthusiastic attitude.
- All scheduled classes will be held, and sub coverage secured.
- Classes will start and end on time.
- Greet participants and learn their names.
- Take class attendance.
- Familiarize yourself with our Upace Group Ex technology which includes but is not limited to sub tracking system, class contact feature, class cancellation.
- Check and respond in a timely fashion to your YMCA email.
- Identify your participants’ limitations and adapt your classes and/or provide modifications accordingly.
- Properly and safely utilize all equipment associated with your class.
- Promote a healthy lifestyle.
- Attend advanced training workshops that are offered throughout the year by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (or another co-op member YMCA).
- Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year.
- Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Minimum 3 years of participation in group exercise class(es) required.
- Possess and maintain at least one current Group Exercise certificate of completion or specialty certificate from a reputable organization for each specialized group modality. 3-4 national certifications (excludes yoga).
- Yoga only: 200 hour certificate without prior instruction experience.
- Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
