About the role

Instruct group exercise classes according to the guidelines set forth by the YMCA of the USA and the Director of Group Exercise.

Responsibilities

  • Congratulations to the YMCA of Greater Brandywine for being named a 2026 Top Workplace by The Philadelphia Inquirer for the third consecutive year.
  • Conduct group exercise classes and provide assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Be a positive YMCA role model with an enthusiastic attitude.
  • All scheduled classes will be held, and sub coverage secured.
  • Classes will start and end on time.
  • Greet participants and learn their names.
  • Take class attendance.
  • Familiarize yourself with our Upace Group Ex technology which includes but is not limited to sub tracking system, class contact feature, class cancellation.
  • Check and respond in a timely fashion to your YMCA email.
  • Identify your participants’ limitations and adapt your classes and/or provide modifications accordingly.
  • Properly and safely utilize all equipment associated with your class.
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • Attend advanced training workshops that are offered throughout the year by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (or another co-op member YMCA).
  • Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year.
  • Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Minimum 3 years of participation in group exercise class(es) required.
  • Possess and maintain at least one current Group Exercise certificate of completion or specialty certificate from a reputable organization for each specialized group modality. 3-4 national certifications (excludes yoga).
  • Yoga only: 200 hour certificate without prior instruction experience.
  • Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
