Yard Supervisor - Lumber
About the role
We are hiring a Lumber Yard Supervisor in Great Falls, MT. This role involves directing yard personnel for good customer service and efficient movement of goods and equipment. Key responsibilities include managing yard staff, overseeing receiving and storage procedures, inspecting loading operations, and providing training.
Responsibilities
- Directs yard personnel for good customer service and efficient movement of goods and equipment.
- Manages yard staff and directs workers in loading, unloading and movement of materials on the premises utilizing material handling equipment and machinery.
- Oversees receiving of yard materials and instructs yard workers in receiving and storage procedures.
- Ensures employees receive proper training and certification to operate equipment and machinery used in yard; ensures equipment is serviced on schedule and maintained effectively.
- Inspects loading operations for outgoing delivery to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, load limits and safety regulations; prepares and reconciles bills of lading and packing slips.
- Provides on-the-job training to outside or new yard employees including product knowledge of items stored in yard and warehouse; housekeeping and safety procedures.
- Assists customers in loading and load building; provides delivery status information, inventory availability and answers related questions.
- Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Five (5) years yard operations experience
Qualifications
- Experience in supervising yard personnel
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices
