About the role

The Mule Driver's main task is to perform various duties under the direction of the Production Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Be ready and willing to receive standard training
  • Move box trailers, tankers, export containers, Iso’s and flexitanks as instructed by the plant operations supervisor’s (Production/Blending)
  • Complete a preshift visual inspection of mule (Daily)
  • Perform a physical inspection (Mon, Wed, Fri)
  • Place jack stands and chalk wheels of containers brought to dock doors (if required)
  • Bring containers to weigh in and out at the scale house
  • Receive daily empty drums, totes, and, pails inventory from Production Supervisor to identify and locate trailers needed for daily production
  • Connect and disconnect all container types from the mule
  • Relieve production forklift driver’s for lunch breaks(if required)
  • Assume the Logistics Driver job duties(if required)
  • Perform a Daily Yard Inventory for empty box trailers and tankers (Inventory list is given to Production Scheduler)
  • Report mule mechanical breakdowns to Maintenance Supervisor
  • Report any issues or damage of all containers to Supervisor
  • Check diesel supply (Notify maintenance when diesel is low)
  • Operate the yard mule in a safe manner
  • Assist driver in picking up empty containers on the yard
  • Exhibit and practice the Third Coast Way fundamental behaviors

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED desired but not required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Previous experience with yard mule operation and driving a tractor trailer is preferred

Skills and Competencies

  • Have general knowledge of plant safety rules
  • Must be able to read and interpret an MSDS, also know the location of the MSDS book
  • Knowledge of our quality policy and objectives

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to use their hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The team member frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The team member is occasionally required to sit.
