About the role

The Yard Driver is responsible for moving tractor trailers to and from the loading docks and parking loaded or empty trailers in designated areas. This role includes transporting tractor trailers to offsite maintenance and inspection facilities, requiring local city driving. All driving must be completed safely in accordance with Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip), including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations; ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed.
  • Report all safety issues and/or required repairs.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies; immediately report any safety hazards.
  • Safely move trailers to and from loading docks and designated parking areas.
  • Handle and return all necessary paperwork related to offsite maintenance and inspection facility interactions.
  • Ensure that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clean as required.
  • At the end of the shift, secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • 6–12 months of tractor trailer experience (internal candidates may qualify with less experience based on performance and training program requirements).
  • Must be able to work scheduled, assigned times and required overtime.
  • Valid CDL A.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
  • Pass pre-employment drug test and road test.
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure a new one.
