Yard Driver

About the role

MedTrans is Medline's private fleet of professional drivers that delivers lifesaving medical products directly to both commercial and residential customers. The fleet consists of newer road and yard trucks with updated equipment. We manage a network of over 50 distribution centers nationally and provide 1-day shipping to 95% of the United States.

Responsibilities

• Operate a yard tractor to shuttle trailers and containers as directed in a company designated area with tight quarters and uneven surfaces.
• Maintain a log in accordance with Federal and State regulations and company needs.
• Perform daily inspections of vehicle.
• Ensure proper function of all safety-related features of the vehicle and any connected equipment during operation.
• Refuel as needed.
• Demonstrate clear communication skills for phone or radio transmission.
• Complete daily yard inventory of trailers and maintain yard organization.
• Set up the shipping department with empty trailers for load out and remove loaded trailers, staging them in the yard drop area.
• Place packing list and seals on trailers as assigned by the shipping coordinator.

Requirements

• Minimum 1-year tractor-trailer/commercial driving experience.
• Must be licensed to operate the assigned vehicle.
• Must meet all Federal and State requirements for operating commercial motor vehicles.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations.
• Able to lift up to 55 pounds throughout the workday.
• Able to work in warehouse and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, noise, and dust.
• Must use Personal Protective Equipment (e.g., safety shoes, dust mask, safety glasses, hearing protection).
• Able to work in elevated places and tight, small spaces.
• Must be available to work at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, with overtime as required to meet business needs within State and Federal regulations.
• Maintain a clean presentation of the driver and vehicle.
• Possess superb driving skills, particularly in backing up trailers.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of Yard Hostler experience.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $21.25 - $30.75 hourly. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s location, education, experience, skills, and abilities.
