About the Role

Junior-level Process Engineer (or Senior Engineering Technician) to work with the Windows engineering team—comprising process engineers, design and development engineers, scientists, and engineering technicians—to support the development and sustainment of X-ray Windows. The role involves collaborating directly with engineering, logistics, and production teams to incorporate new products into manufacturing and drive continuous improvement of existing products.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze data related to engineering design, manufacturing, and product support requirements.
  • Apply standard methods and basic principles of Lean product development, Theory of Constraints, and project management.
  • Process and communicate data in meaningful forms (e.g., flow charts, Pareto charts, control charts) to track and improve manufacturing yields.
  • Oversee process performance and testing, documenting results.
  • Evaluate current processes and designs, identifying potential improvements and assessing return on investment and risk.
  • Use problem-solving and decision-making tools to analyze situations and determine optimal courses of action.
  • Support the Materials team with First Article reviews and coordinate with vendors on non-conformity issues and material/specification changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of silicon wafer procurement, photolithography, silicon oxidation, LPCVD deposition, anisotropic silicon wet etching, wafer cleaning, aluminum evaporation, sputtering, polyimide spin and cure, clean room operations, and machining technology.
  • Intermediate knowledge of metal-to-metal brazing processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio).
  • Experience operating SEM and other microscopy equipment.
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean manufacturing training preferred.
  • Ability to create and interpret DOE (Design of Experiments) matrices.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in an engineering field or science-related discipline (ABET preferred) or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of manufacturing operations experience (e.g., assembler, production control).
  • 2+ years of engineering experience (e.g., engineering technician, engineer associate) in a semiconductor processing environment (MEMS manufacturing preferred).

Skills

  • Adaptability: Understands changes in work tasks, situations, and department dynamics; treats changes as opportunities for learning or growth.
  • Engineering Processes: Basic knowledge of engineering disciplines (e.g., design, test, software) and their interactions with non-engineering processes (e.g., operations, logistics, business).
  • Motivation: Self-starter able to function with minimal supervision; proactively coordinates with others to resolve potential conflicts and meet project timelines.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Statistical Background: Strong understanding of statistical tools and programs.
