About the Role

The Registered Radiological (X-Ray) Technologist performs activities of the Radiology Technologist at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail, and assumes responsibilities for designated areas or procedures as directed by the Director of Radiology or Assistant Director of Radiology. This role is responsible for securing radiology studies ordered to assist physicians in making correct diagnoses, careful handling of all radiology equipment and supplies, operating equipment properly, and reporting equipment maintenance needs for the assigned area.

This employee must be willing to work with the realization that poor film quality may have serious consequences for patients, and be able to pay attention to detail for extended periods of time while working under general supervision following established radiology policies and procedures. The technologist must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiology studies to assist physicians in making correct diagnoses.
  • Handle and operate radiology equipment and supplies properly.
  • Report equipment maintenance needs for the assigned area.
  • Work under general supervision following established radiology policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment for a patient population of all ages.
  • Participate in rotating shifts, including call, holidays, and hurricane teams.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a two-year approved School of X-ray Technology.
  • Current registration as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
  • BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • De-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days).
  • Maintain a minimum of 24 ECE points in each two-year period as required by the ARRT in Radiology.

Physical Demands

  • Moderately active work involving sitting, moving about the office and facility, and traveling within the SRHS service area.
  • Exerting negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body.
  • Using many physical motions in daily work activities, including exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues.
  • Repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment.
  • Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Close visual acuity and the ability to adjust focus between computer monitors and printed material.
  • Ability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue.
  • Willingness to work assigned schedules, including off days, shifts, weekends, and potential changes based on hospital needs.
