WW - BACKFLOW/CROSS CONN TECH

Hourly pay range: $23.56 - $28.20. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

About the role

The principal function of this position is to perform inspections of commercial and industrial buildings to identify potential or existing cross connections between the domestic water supply and non-potable sources. The work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent Operations, with considerable leeway for independent judgment and initiative. The role requires establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, other city employees, business owners, installers, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections on new and existing industrial, commercial, or other buildings to identify potential or existing cross connections between the domestic water supply and non-potable water sources.
• Draws or sketches plumbing layouts in existing buildings to show location of hazards and backflow devices.
• Reviews plans and specifications to identify potential cross connections.
• Interprets codes and regulations related to cross connection and backflow, and explains corrective action needed to property owners and responsible individuals.
• Maintains accurate records and files on all inspections.
• Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions to stay current on principles, practices, and new developments.
• Keeps supervisors informed concerning work progress, potential problems, and suggestions for improvement.
• Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
• Communicates and coordinates with others to maximize interdepartmental operations and activities.
• Assists in performing water quality testing and sample delivery to laboratory as needed.

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: 2+ years in maintenance, trade, or construction, or equivalent experience in a water distribution system.
• Certifications & Licenses:
  • Valid State of Idaho Driver’s License.
  • Water Distribution I License (required).
  • Water Distribution II License (required within 1 year of accepting the position).
• Computer Skills: Ability to operate computers using standard or customized software and willingness to learn new skills.

Schedule

Full-time, 10-hour shifts typically Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in an office environment and field settings. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions.
