In this role, you'll supervise the team, manage inventory, work with vendors, and ensure the department runs smoothly and looks its best every day. What You'll Do No two days are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect: Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going out of your way to make every visit a great oneSupervise and assign work for the evening and part-time crew and train new employeesStock, rotate, and face product on shelves and review out-of-stocks, ad items, and back stockOrder merchandise as directed by the department head and control inventoryMonitor sales regularly and make sales suggestions and ideas to the General ManagerMeet with vendors to obtain point-of-purchase materials and other sales-enhancing itemsPrice items for displays and review price tags, updating signage as neededHandle and resolve customer issues with care and professionalismUnload trucks and ensure product is stocked in the appropriate areaClean display cases and monitor maintenance of equipment and floorsAssume management duties in the absence of the Department ManagerInstruct, assign, and review the work of Cashiers and all Associates, maintaining standards and coordinating activitiesPractice proper sanitation procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area at all timesAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assignedAdhere to all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelinesReport to work when scheduled and on time Your Skills Follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions with attention to detailPerform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentagesFile, post, and organize materials; copy data accurately between records; and gather basic information through interviewsGuide and direct team members clearly and provide basic direction with confidenceWork effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment Reporting Relationships Accountable and Reports to: General Manager Direct Reports: Cashiers; All Associates Education And Experience High school diploma or equivalent experience requiredSix months or less of related work experience preferred Physical Requirements Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties Working Environment This is a fast-paced role in a retail store environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have continuous exposure to noise, temperature extremes, and dampness, with frequent exposure to equipment movement hazards and cleaning chemicals or solvents, and occasional potential for electrical hazards.
