Work location: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, Maryland. This position is expected to be performed onsite.

Citizenship: U.S. Citizen only. Must satisfy TIER II/non-critical sensitive background investigation and CAC/network access requirements.

Full-time, 1 FTE. Base period: December 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027, with potential option periods.

Pay

  • $39.81 per hour

Schedule

  • Typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays and authorized closures
  • Occasional after-hours support may be required for contingency operations, exercises, or other mission requirements

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage editorial calendars
  • Research topics and identify appropriate sources
  • Conduct interviews with subject matter experts and stakeholders
  • Write feature stories, news articles, reports, speeches, and briefings
  • Develop website and social media content
  • Apply AP Style and organizational editorial standards
  • Collaborate with graphic design, video, and multimedia personnel
  • Support media and stakeholder relations
  • Support communications for events and crisis situations
  • Coordinate content reviews and approvals
  • Protect sensitive information and comply with applicable HIPAA/PHI requirements
  • Maintain quality, accuracy, and consistency across communications products

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of professional journalism, writing, or related communications experience
  • Professional writing portfolio or comparable work samples
  • Experience in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or a comparable environment
  • Knowledge of HIPAA/PHI requirements
  • Strong knowledge and application of AP Style
  • Experience with project management and content strategy
  • Strong interviewing, research, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to develop content for print, web, social media, speeches, reports, and briefings
