Responsibilities
- Teach and coach young people in the fundamentals and techniques of wrestling.
- Continuously improve the wrestling program and overall sports program at West High School.
- Motivate student-athletes to excel both on the court and in the classroom.
- Demonstrate competitive drive to develop and maintain a strong wrestling program.
- Communicate effectively with administration, staff, students, and booster club.
- Support the strength and conditioning coordinator to ensure proper conditioning and weight training for student athletes.
- Provide adequate supervision before, during, and after practices/meets.
- Lead by example, demonstrating high character and solid moral background.
- Promote other programs at West High School and encourage participation in additional activities.
- Work with Athletic Boosters in operating concession stands and attend one meeting per academic year.
- Support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behavior and academics.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality to ensure job duties are performed successfully.
- Build rapport with culturally diverse students to help each child reach their full potential.
- Assist in developing wrestling programs at every age level, including feeder programs.
- Assist at one coach's clinic and one youth camp per calendar year.
- Support Davenport West High Athletic Boosters youth summer sports camp.
- Perform any duties assigned by the head coach or administration.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Occasionally lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs, such as assisting children or moving furniture.
- Supervise students in all types of weather, both indoors and outdoors.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.
- Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including physical restraint procedures and escorting.
Work Environment
- Noise level varies from quiet to loud.
- Work may be indoors or outdoors, including non-air-conditioned rooms.
- Substance-free and fast-paced environment with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
- Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
Qualifications
- Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
- Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
