Job Responsibilities
- Provide educational services that are developmentally appropriate to the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual learning needs of students K-5th.
- Plan and conduct developmentally appropriate lessons.
- Oversee the collection and organization of appropriate classroom materials.
- Structure the physical environment to meet the developmental and safety needs of young children.
- Plan and implement activities that train preschool children to adopt appropriate behaviors.
- Supervise, guide, and train volunteers to assist in the classroom.
- Cookordinate the work of subordinate employees as needed and confer with program administrator to address concerns.
- Promote language and literacy development.
- Incorporate the student's home culture and language into the classroom setting as appropriate.
- Ensure that classroom activities include a variety of movements, play and hands-on activities.
- Develop lessons and activities that promote social interaction and emotional resilience.
- Maintain a clean and healthy classroom environment and model sanitary practices that assist students in learning personal hygiene.
- Gather relevant data from family, colleagues and agencies as needed to develop educational plans for student/family.
- Develop and maintain individual education plans for each child.
- Provide a welcoming atmosphere that encourages parent participation in their children's education.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding the student's educational progress, activities to promote learning in the home and to increase the parent's understanding of school and community programs and services.
- Conduct home visits and parent/teacher conferences at times accessible to parents (may include evenings and weekends).
- Write and distribute parent newsletters and announcements according to timeliness, allowing for translation needs.
- Monitor adherence to educational plans and manage the flow of accurate information.
- Submit required reports and other data as required.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with parents and colleagues.
- Collaborate with colleagues and families to develop and implement special education programs and services as needed.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the developmental and educational requirements of preschool-age children, to include developmentally appropriate practices and basic child development theory.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate child needs and develop plans to meet those needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing; ability to write reports, complete all required program documentation and other correspondence.
- Basic word processing and data entry skills.
- Knowledge of and readiness to implement conflict management strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and carry out learning activities for young children.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with enrolled families, staff, other agency personnel and the public.
- Ability to lift 40-60 pounds and to interact with children who are seated on the floor.
