Wound Ostomy Continence

About the Role

Provides follow-up and interventions to patients diagnosed with ostomies, draining wounds, fistulae, or skin breakdown secondary to pressure, incontinence, venous hypertension, arterial insufficiency, trauma, surgery, diabetic neuropathy, and other related skin issues.

Offers direct patient care counseling, individualized instruction, and assessment for conditions including abdominal stomas, wound care, and related skin issues. Assists patients through the continuum of care and evaluates products for ostomy, continence, and wound care.

Responsibilities

• Provide follow-up and interventions for patients with ostomies, draining wounds, fistulae, or skin breakdown.
• Counsel individuals anticipating surgery that may result in a stoma and provide instruction for those with an abdominal stoma.
• Assess and treat skin breakdown conditions related to pressure, incontinence, venous hypertension, arterial insufficiency, trauma, surgery, or diabetic neuropathy.
• Assist patients in managing related issues through the continuum of care.
• Evaluate and recommend ostomy, continence, and wound care products.
• Assess individual patient needs and goals, and provide educational programs to physicians, nursing, and paramedical professionals on ostomy/wound care management.
• Conduct continuing educational programs for physicians and nursing personnel on current standards of practice for ostomy patients.
• Provide patient and family teaching regarding ostomy/wound care and self-management.

Requirements

• Minimum one (1) year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse caring for patients with abdominal stomas, draining wounds, fistulas, and pressure sores/ulcers.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Completion of an accredited Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (WOCN) program.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse License (California).
• Basic Life Support certification.
• Ostomy Care Nurse Certificate from Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB).
• Wound Care Nurse Certificate from Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB).
• Demonstrated knowledge of pediatric and adult patient teaching principles.
• Demonstrated knowledge of gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems, including pathophysiology.
• Effective communication skills and fine motor dexterity.
• Certified Continence Nurse (CCCN) may be required as specified by department.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Board Certification in Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (CWOCN).

Pay

$79.25 - $97.47 per hour. Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market-competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role and does not reflect the full value of the total rewards package. Actual base pay determined at offer will be based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.

Schedule

• Per Diem (as needed).
• Shift: Day (08:00 AM – 04:30 PM).
• Workdays: Sunday through Saturday.
