Job Summary
The Wound/Ostomy Nurse manages and directs ostomy and wound care needs of inpatients. The goal is to prevent hospital acquired wounds and facilitate healing for present on admission wounds.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a professional school of nursing; BSN preferred
- Current licensure by Tennessee board of nursing or other compact board of nursing
- Demonstrated experience with each of the required areas of expertise in section III
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Current BLS provider certification
- Current CWON or CWOCN certification(s) within 18 months of hire
Essential Functions
- Develops, revises and implements ostomy and wound policies and procedures (evidence based practice)
- Develops, revises and implements ostomy and wound order sets (evidence based practice)
- Consults and develops plans of care (per nursing process and scope) for patients with ostomies and wounds (evidence based practice)
- Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served
- Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and procedures
- Documents all required components of patient care
- Facilitates and supports ongoing ostomy and wound care education for staff members
- Collects, analyzes and reports essential information related to wound prevalence, wound incidence and departmental operations to appropriate bodies
- Leads and/or participates on performance improvement teams
- Acts as liaison between Centennial Medical Center and internal/external customers
- Supports the facility’s Standards of Performance and ICARE values
