Worldwide Specialist Solutions Architect - Database Migration, Data & AI GTM
About the role
The Worldwide Database Migration Specialist team positions AWS as the best place to migrate and modernize commercial and open-source databases. We help customers move off legacy Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, and other commercial engines to AWS-native databases — Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL, RDS, and Amazon DSQL — using AWS DMS, Schema Conversion, and GenAI-powered migration tooling, accelerating some of the largest and most complex migrations in our portfolio.
This is a worldwide role supporting enterprise and strategic customers across all industries on their database migration and modernization initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead deep, technical customer engagements on heterogeneous and homogeneous database migrations (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL) to AWS-native targets including Aurora, RDS, and Amazon DSQL, solving complex challenges where the strategy and design are not yet defined.
- Serve as a domain expert across the migration toolchain — AWS DMS, Schema Conversion, and popular GenAI-based migration and code-conversion tools.
- At times, get deep into the weeds of the migration's technical challenges — root-causing replication, performance, schema, and data-validation issues hands-on — to unblock stalled migrations and keep customer timelines on track.
- Build working prototypes, demos, and reusable artifacts for customer engagements using GenAI developer tools such as Kiro and Claude / Claude CLI to accelerate proofs of concept and demonstrate value hands-on.
- Represent the voice of the customer, bringing field feedback to service teams to influence the product roadmap.
- Provide advanced technical knowledge to GTM and account teams to unblock customers' most critical migration challenges, including senior-leadership escalations.
- Act as a thought leader through AWS blogs, whitepapers, reference architectures, workshops, and events such as AWS Summit and re:Invent.
- Create scalable field enablement for the broader SA population, and mentor and develop other Specialist SAs.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking experience
- 5+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
- 10+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience
- Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud
- Knowledge of SQL, Linux, OLAP, and relational, NoSQL & multi-dimensional databases
- Database migration experience — AWS DMS, Schema Conversion, and/or native/third-party replication tools
- GenAI developer tools (Kiro, Claude/Claude CLI) for prototypes/demos and GenAI-based migration tooling
