Spriggs Excavation is a General Civil Contractor operating primarily in the Rocky Mountain, Western, and Midwest regions. We specialize in electrical substation, renewable energy, and residential excavation projects, utilizing state-of-the-art technology and an experienced team with over 15 years of superior performance in quality, performance, and safety.

About the role

This is a full-time, 100% travel position requiring continuous travel to project sites across multiple states based on business needs and project schedules. Employees should expect assignments lasting several months at a time in one location before transitioning to another project in a different state. Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to work wherever projects are located are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.
  • Works with Superintendent onsite and other foremen to develop daily job tasks.
  • Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
  • Provides guidance and support to develop crew members.
  • Assists with the set-up of GPS systems.
  • Operates heavy earthmoving equipment such as dozers, loaders, scrapers, excavators, or motor graders while leading a crew to perform assigned tasks.
  • Performs or requests necessary repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines, and codes and ensures all crew members do the same.
  • Completes and discusses Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) with crews every day before work starts.
  • Maintains records of time worked and materials used.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least five years of operating experience.
  • Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Thorough understanding of practices involved in the use and maintenance of various types of heavy equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of safety rules and ability to safely operate machinery.
  • Thorough understanding of GPS systems and their utilization in heavy earthmoving activities.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate appropriately.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory for understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and team communications.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
  • Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds at a time, using safe and proper lifting techniques.

Pay

$30-35/hr DOE, with GSA Per Diem for travel.
