Job Summary

Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) seeks dedicated Workforce Development (WFD) Instructors – Fire Training to join our part-time teaching team. These instructors are responsible for delivering specialized fire training courses and programs scheduled throughout the year. Instruction may take place at various times and locations to meet community and workforce needs.

Vocational & Continuing Education

  • Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. At least five (5) years of fire service experience. Valid Driver’s License.
  • Licensing Requirement: This position must comply with PA Act 15. Candidates must present completed background clearances and training certificates at the time of hire. More information is available at: https://www.hacc.edu/HumanResources/NewHire/index.cfm.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Credentialed PA State Fire Academy Instructor (Local Level, Facility, or Academy Instruction).
  • PA State Certification Program Evaluator for certification programs.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift during extended training sessions.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment.
  • Ability to wear and operate firefighting gear, respirators, and training equipment.
  • Sufficient visual and auditory ability to ensure safety and respond to emergencies promptly.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom and practical fire training in compliance with NFPA, OSHA, and state/national standards.
  • Develop and update lesson plans, training materials, and scenario-based exercises.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate training and certification records.
  • Enforce safety protocols during all training sessions.
  • Collaborate with Workforce Development staff, local fire departments, and community partners to meet training needs.
  • Maintain instructor certifications and engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Operate a vehicle or emergency vehicle safely as required.

Chemistry

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
