Workers Compensation Specialist

About the role

This plant-based role serves as the primary handler for workers' compensation claims, emphasizing excellent customer service, quality claims handling, and effective loss cost management.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and process complex or technically difficult workers' compensation claims by investigating and gathering information to determine the exposure on the claim
• Handle a full caseload, with proven ability to manage cases of increased severity
• Manage claims through well-developed action plans to ensure timely and cost-effective resolutions
• Calculate and assign timely and appropriate reserves to claims; manage reserve adequacy throughout the life of the claim
• Calculate and pay benefits due; approve and make timely claim payments and adjustments; and settle claims within designated authority level
• Prepare necessary state filings within statutory limits
• Coordinate vendor referrals for additional investigation and/or litigation management
• Use appropriate cost containment techniques, including strategic vendor partnerships, to reduce overall cost of claims
• Manage claim recoveries, including but not limited to subrogation, Second Injury Fund excess recoveries, and Social Security and Medicare offsets
• Report claims to the excess carrier
• Communicate claim activity and processing with the claimant and the client
• Ensure claim files are properly documented, and claims coding is correct
• Refer cases as appropriate to supervisor and management

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma
• 3-5 years of Missouri Workers' Compensation Claims Adjusting experience
• Workers' compensation claims handling experience
• Experience in claims handling and loss cost management
• Office and administrative experience
• Strong customer service skills
• Administrative and clerical skills

Workplace & Schedule

• Fully onsite – 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, at the Kansas City Plant
• Working hours: 8 AM to 5 PM with a 1-hour lunch break
• Contract position based in Kansas City, MO
• Open-ended contract opportunity with potential for advancement

Pay & Benefits

Pay range: $28.87 - $28.87/hr. Individual compensation depends on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other job-related factors.
