Job Duties
- Develop and revise litigation strategies for assigned cases
- Conduct discovery, hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and similar proceedings
- Research applicable laws and regulations
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, legal opinions, and other legal documents
- Conduct settlement negotiations as required
- Advise and collaborate with claims representatives and insured clients
- Provide clear legal opinions and recommendations
- Maintain effective client and stakeholder relationships
- Stay current on legal developments and industry trends
- Utilize technology to improve legal processes, quality, and efficiency
- Serve as a team or group leader when assigned
- Interface with internal legal departments and business partners

About the Role
The Workers Compensation Attorney serves as Staff Counsel, representing the company and its policyholders in workers’ compensation claims involving moderate exposure and moderately complex legal issues. This remote position requires an attorney licensed in California with a strong understanding of Workers’ Compensation law and the ability to independently manage litigation matters from inception through resolution. The attorney will develop and implement legal strategies, conduct discovery, represent clients at hearings and depositions, draft legal documents, and provide legal counsel to claims professionals and insured clients. The role requires strong communication skills, sound legal judgment, and the ability to effectively manage multiple cases while maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will remain current on legal developments, leverage technology to improve efficiency and case outcomes, and contribute to the overall success of the legal team.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of successful experience as an attorney
Strong knowledge of Workers’ Compensation law
Strong technical skills
General knowledge of insurance law
Ability to effectively communicate and persuade through written and verbal communication
Experience handling legal matters of moderate complexity
Ability to develop legal strategies for litigation, discovery, investigations, and hearings
Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
