Workers' Compensation Attorney

About the role

The successful candidate will join Hennessy & Roach, P.C., a law firm based in Springfield, IL, that defends employers in Workers’ Compensation and General Liability matters across multiple Midwestern states.

Responsibilities

• Conducting discovery
• Drafting pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents
• Litigating workers' compensation or general liability cases before an administrative law judge
• Representing the interests of the employer or insurer at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings
• Monitoring loss run reports for trends and increases and alerting management to concerns
• Aiding in the investigation of accidents and problem areas
• Managing workers' compensation costs to reduce liability
• Compiling and submitting reports required by company management
• Cooking and attending claims reviews
• Negotiating settlements on behalf of the insurance company/employer

Qualifications

• J.D. and proof of admission to Illinois bar
• Passing the bar in another Midwest state a plus
• Experience in workers’ compensation or general liability defense work
• Working knowledge of legal principles and practices
• In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations
• Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology
