Workers Comp Premium auditor

About the role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Workers' Compensation Audit Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of workers' compensation premium audits for one of California's fastest-growing workers' compensation agencies. This is an opportunity to build and improve the audit department.

Responsibilities

• Manage workers' compensation premium audits from start to finish.
• Review payroll records, tax documents, and financial statements to ensure accurate reporting.
• Gather and organize audit documentation from clients.
• Analyze audit worksheets and identify classification or payroll errors.
• Dispute incorrect audit findings and negotiate with insurance carriers when appropriate.
• Track all audits and ensure they are completed accurately and on time.
• Build standardized audit workflows, checklists, and internal procedures.
• Communicate directly with clients to explain audit requirements and results.
• Work closely with account managers, producers, and carrier auditors to achieve the best possible outcome for clients.
• Identify opportunities to reduce future audit exposure through proper payroll reporting and classification guidance.

Requirements

• 3+ years of workers' compensation premium audit experience, insurance underwriting, or agency audit management.
• Strong understanding of California workers' compensation classifications, payroll reporting, and audit procedures.
• Ability to interpret payroll reports, tax filings, financial statements, and insurance policy language.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
• Experience working with insurance carriers, brokers, or premium auditors is highly preferred.
