Workday Technical Lead

About the role
You will be the go-to technical point of contact for our Workday developer platform — Integrations, Extend, AI, and Data — leading solution design, development, and platform operations while collaborating across technical and business audiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead solution design efforts for complex Workday initiatives, including when requirements are ambiguous or incomplete — bringing structure, clarity, and a path forward
- Translate business needs into technical designs, producing architecture diagrams, data flow models, and detailed technical specifications
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Workday solutions across:
- Integrations
- Orchestrate
- iPaaS/Middleware platforms
- RaaS (Report-as-a-Service) and REST/SOAP APIs
- GraphQL
- Extend Agent Builders
- Data Lakes
- Implement secure integration patterns using OAuth, SAML, and other modern authentication standards
- Re-architect and re-build integrations to modernize the SNC tech stack
- Execute proactive monitoring, performance management, break-fix triage, and troubleshooting across the Workday integration landscape
- Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including specifications, runbooks, and architecture decision records
- Partner with the Product Owner and business stakeholders to gather requirements, lead technical design discussions, and drive solutions to completion
- Communicate technical concepts and trade-offs clearly to both technical peers and non-technical business partners
- Stay current on Workday platform advancements, new features, and industry trends — especially emerging AI/LLM opportunities within the HR tech space
- Continuously improve integration methodologies, development standards, and team practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 6+ years of experience with at least 4+ years of hands-on Workday technical experience, including deep expertise in Workday integration development, security, reports, and business processes
- In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of related experience is required
- Higher-level relevant degree may substitute for experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in Workday Orchestrate
- Workday Certification in Orchestrate/Integrations
- Experience with Workday Business Processes and Security Configuration
- Solid experience building reports with Workday Report Writer, RaaS, and WQL
- Proven experience building Workday Extend applications
- Track record of utilizing AI/Agents to supercharge development
- Strong command of XML, SQL, JSON
- Experience with RESTful APIs, SOAP, and GraphQL in an enterprise integration context
- Familiarity with middleware/iPaaS platforms such as MuleSoft or data platforms like Snowflake/Power BI
- Solid understanding of security and authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to design solutions under ambiguous or incomplete requirements
- Experience with integration testing, release management, and operational best practices
- Strong documentation habits and communication skills across technical and business audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday certification(s) in Extend and related domains
- Experience with Workday Prism Analytics or Data Cloud
- Exposure to AI/LLM integration patterns and their application in HR technology workflows
- Understanding of global HR processes, payroll landscapes, and HR compliance considerations
- Experience in an embedded product team, Workday services partner, or HRIS/IT environment
Pay
Estimated starting salary range: $124,771.42 – $171,560.71. Compensation varies depending on key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.
