Work Planner

Responsibilities

• Conducts safety audits.
• Inspects rights-of-way (ROW) and easements for trim, removal, and chemical treatment requirements.
• Marks vegetation as required.
• Collects and reports data required by Line Clearing contractors.
• Notifies and communicates with customers as required.
• Travel requirements vary by work location and project needs; occasional day and overnight travel may be necessary.
• Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations.

Requirements

• Minimum thirty (30) semester credits or forty-five (45) quarter credits toward a degree from an accredited college/university OR 2-3 years of UVM experience without a degree.
• Species and hazard tree identification skills, knowledge of invasive species, and tree growth.
• Computer and communication skills.
• Knowledge of industry standards.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• ISA or equivalent certification (preferred but not required).
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Working Environment

Work alone in an outdoor field environment, including vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines in remote, urban, and city settings. Physical demands include walking/hiking up to 10 miles daily on varied terrain (flat, wet, slippery, uneven, steep, rough), exposure to noise, dust, grease, all weather and temperature conditions, and hazardous traffic conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

Physical Demands

• Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment.
• Walk up to 10 miles per day, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods.
• Frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and perform repetitive hand, arm, and shoulder movements (e.g., forcefully beat down brush).
• Carry, push, and/or pull light to heavy weights; frequently lift up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 60 lbs. (e.g., sandbags).
• Operate assigned equipment and vehicles, including handheld computer, range finder, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cones.
• Ability to verbally communicate and exchange information with the public.
• Ability to see and hear within normal range, with or without correction.
