Work Planner

About the role

Work alone in an outdoor field environment, patrolling utility power lines by vehicle and foot in remote, urban, and city settings. The role involves physical demands such as walking/hiking on varied terrain (flat, uneven, steep, slippery), exposure to weather, noise, dust, and hazardous traffic conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety audits.
• Inspect rights-of-way (ROW) and easements for trim, removal, and chemical treatment requirements.
• Mark vegetation as required.
• Collect and report data for Line Clearing contractors.
• Notify and communicate with customers as needed.
• Travel occasionally (day and overnight) based on project needs.
• Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations.

Requirements

• Minimum thirty (30) semester credits or forty-five (45) quarter credits toward a degree from an accredited college/university OR 2-3 years of UVM experience without a degree.
• Species and hazard tree identification skills, knowledge of invasive species, and tree growth.
• Computer and communication skills.
• Knowledge of industry standards.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• ISA or equivalent certification (preferred but not required).
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Demands

• Walk up to 10 miles daily, stand, sit, and operate a vehicle for prolonged periods.
• Frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, twist, grasp, and perform repetitive hand/arm/shoulder movements (e.g., forcefully beating down brush).
• Carry, push, or pull light to heavy weights (frequently up to 10 lbs., occasionally up to 60 lbs.).
• Operate field equipment (handheld computer, range finder, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, traffic cones).
• Verbally communicate and see/hear within normal range (with or without correction).
