Work Planner

Responsibilities

• Identify and report safety hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions; follow AMS safety standards, including safe driving, wildfire prevention, and injury prevention protocols.
• Safely drive to work sites and hike rights‑of‑way (up to 10 miles/day); inspect and document vegetation work (pruning/removal) at customer properties.
• Record vegetation data using tablets and specialized software; use forestry computer systems for data entry and tracking.
• Address customer concerns and complaints regarding vegetation work promptly; communicate effectively with leadership, auditors, clients, contractors, landowners, and the public.
• Maintain positive public relations through professional conduct.
• Participate in storm and emergency response duties as needed.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of tree species identification, hazard tree assessment, invasive species management, and tree growth patterns.
• Ability to hike/walk rights‑of‑way and drive for extended periods.
• Familiarity with utility vegetation management practices.
• Experience with GIS software/technology, Microsoft Suite, and iPhone.
• Ability to work alone, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem‑solving and multitasking abilities, and attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt to change.

Preferred Qualifications

• ISA or equivalent certification.
• Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Working Environment

The role involves both team and solo work, primarily in outdoor field settings and low‑light conditions. Duties include foot patrol of energy corridors near power lines or pipelines, remote locations, and urban environments. Physical demands include walking/hiking up to 10 miles per day on varied surfaces (flat, wet, rocky, steep, etc.), exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, extreme weather, hazardous traffic, wildlife, insects, and poisonous plants. Work may also be performed in a vehicle or limited indoor office time.

Physical Requirements

The employee must have sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment, including frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing, reaching, twisting, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Must be able to lift up to 10 lb regularly and occasionally up to 60 lb, operate field equipment (handheld computer, range finder, water backpack, shovel, traffic cone), and communicate verbally with the public. Normal vision and hearing (with or without correction) are required.
