General Summary of Position
Provides comprehensive primary health care to a select population of essentially healthy women. Participates in the care of women with medical complications in collaboration with obstetricians and gynecologists. Assumes responsibility for a caseload of obstetrical and gynecological patients selected according to midwifery practice protocols.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
- Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Affirms the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a plan of care for obstetrical and gynecological patients selected according to approved nurse-midwifery protocols.
- Affirms the assistance in the development, implementation, and revision of nurse-midwifery protocols and standards of care.
- Affirms the assistance in the planning of community health screenings.
- Collaborates with the health care team in planning and implementing care for obstetrical and gynecological patients.
- Completes history physical examinations and laboratory tests as appropriate.
- Documents interventions and follow-up provided to patients.
- Documents patient care encounters in a clear, complete, concise, and organized manner.
- Evaluates individual health care status of patients, formulates a management plan, and revises the plan as indicated.
- Participates in continuous case review and appropriately communicates current data regarding all patients cared for by the nurse-midwifery practice.
- May perform administrative, educational, and related duties required, including but not limited to supervising and training subordinate staff.
- Participates in research activities.
- Provides inpatient obstetrical care including labor management, delivery of the infant, repair of lacerations/episiotomies, and management of minor complications.
- Initiates emergency care as needed.
- Provides primary care in an ambulatory setting to women, including ordering and evaluating diagnostic tests and managing minor complications.
- Reviews and recommends patient information for purchase and distribution.
- Reviews medical records to ensure that health maintenance records are completed.
- Sets up consultations according to nurse-midwifery protocols from all members of the health care team involved in patient care and makes appropriate referrals.
- Provides consultation services as required by the health care team.
- Might act as a liaison between the detoxification in-patient service and the gynecologic and obstetrical service.
- Supports/assists in the care of patients in the drug treatment in-patient program.
- Might participate in grant development and planning (with the Department of Psychiatry relating to substance abuse and pregnancy or the Women's Services with regard to the T.A.P.P. program).
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduation from an accredited school of Nurse-Midwifery required.
Experience
- 1-2 years clinical nurse midwife experience required.
Licenses and Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the State of Maryland and/or in the District of Columbia required or MIDWIFE - Nurse Midwife - Licensed in the State of Maryland and/or in the District of Columbia required and AC-CRN-Midwife MBON - ACCRNMID and CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
Pay
This position has a hiring range of USD $115,003.00 - USD $189,999.00 /Yr.
