    Description

    At Emory Healthcare (EHC), wound, ostomy, and continence care is a system-wide clinical priority supported by innovation, research, and expert leadership. We are seeking a Wound Ostomy Registered Nurse (RN) to direct, elevate, and advance wound, pressure injury, and ostomy care across our organization.

    Job Summary

    Directs agency-wide initiatives for pressure ulcer prevention, wound care and ostomy care, to include supporting pressure ulcer prevalence data collection, evidence-based policies, procedures, and protocols, and advisement of appropriate support surfaces, products, and staff decision-making algorithms.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    Clinical Expertise and Leadership

    • Integrates knowledge gained through practice and education to respond intuitively to patient/family needs.
    • Routinely leads efforts to strengthen organizational systems that support patient care.
    • Adept at creative problem-solving, negotiating conflict, and collaborating with others.
    • Demonstrates insight, judgment, and clinically sound risk-taking.
    • Role models expert communication skills to colleagues through example and has achieved clinical expertise and leadership, is viewed as a professional leader within the unit and beyond.
    • Advances and leads evidence-based practices, participates, and leads in unit governance, leads unit projects, and mentors other nurses to achieve in the role of the professional nurse.

    Clinical Practice and Documentation

    • Role models dependable, effective, and efficient care to a patient population using the nursing process.
    • Demonstrates expert assessment skills.
    • Demonstrates foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes based on intuition and experience.
    • Is recognized as an expert clinician and a leader within their area of specialty and assists less experienced nurses concerning patient care.
    • Maintains adherence to documentation standards, provides feedback to staff, and implements test(s) of change.
    • Establishes, promotes, and evaluates standardized plans of care for the unit using evidence-based research within the area of specialty.
    • Collaborates with management and patient/family advisor council to develop standardized teaching materials for patient and family learning needs.
    • Role models and educates others utilizing the Synergy model for patient care.

    Education and Mentorship

    • Identifies, initiates, and collaborates to provide needed educational programs.
    • Demonstrates current evidence-based practice and disseminates information.
    • Questions clinical practice as it relates to research.

    Delegation and Team Leadership

    • Role models delegation skills to colleagues and assists others in effective delegation utilizing the Synergy model of care.
    • Assumes a leadership and resource role with the interdisciplinary team.
    • Considered the expert and is viewed as a formal leader.
    • Fulfills Charge Nurse responsibilities when assigned.
    • Orients staff or students as assigned in absence of designated preceptor.
    • Evaluates the use of resources and cost containment activities.
    • Leads and coordinates team behavior between staff members and actively fosters the development of leadership skills in others.
    • Exhibits desire to hear and understand another's point of view.
    • Role models and educates others utilizing the Synergy model for patient care.

    Therapeutic Relationships and Cultural Sensitivity

    • Intuitively uses self in the therapeutic relationship to enhance care.

    • Plans constructive interventions based on the patient's values.
    • Effectively elicits cultural beliefs and values from patients and integrates these into overall patient management.

    Professional Development

    • Must meet all Clinical Nurse I Employee Commitments.
    • Achieves electives and contact hours as defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) system to maintain position.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
    • Experience: Two years experience as an RN with a minimum of two years of experience in the area of concentration
    • License: Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board
    • Certifications: BLS certification ACLS may be required in designated departments Nursing Specialty Certification
    • If completing virtual care activities that may include multi-state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire.

    Physical Requirements

    36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
