WJSHS Counselor (Grades 7-12)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in School Counseling or the ability to obtain such degree
• Good public relations skills
• The ability to work effectively with administrators, teachers, parents, and students
• Thorough and continuous training in the principles of counseling and evaluation
• Valid Special Services Provider License issued by the Colorado Department of Education

The Superintendent has the right to waive or reconsider any of the above requirements after seeking permission from the board.

Responsibilities

• Keep current in the knowledge of counseling practices and available community resources
• Review, revise, and make presentations based on the ASCA and CSCA standards
• Provide counseling, consultation, and collaboration with students, teachers, and parents regarding challenges which may arise
• Aid in maintaining good school and district public relations
• Aid school personnel in the planning of school programs and policies to meet the needs of all students
• Aid in school orientation and back-to-school registration
• Aid in interpreting testing data
• Arrange conferences with parents when in the interest of students
• Help set up student's schedules
• Work with students and staff
• Serve as the 504 Plan case manager in assigned building
• Participate on the Yuma County Child Protection Team as needed
• Building-specific duties as agreed upon
• Create and manage a school counseling program relevant to student and community needs that includes classroom, individual, and group counseling
• Work with administration to assist with crisis intervention and threat assessments
• Work together with and assist other building counselor(s) as needed
• Assist with the coordination and administration of state and standardized assessments as needed, and provide support to the WES and WJSHS Testing Liaisons as directed
• Collaborate with the Registrar/Career Readiness Coordinator to support students' academic planning, graduation planning, and postsecondary goals
• Performs other duties as assigned

Supervises any office help, full or part-time, which may be employed within the Guidance Office area.

Salary and work year as described in district policy.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Licensed personnel, Policy GCO.
