WISE Bus Driver

About the Role
Garrison Forest School is seeking an experienced bus driver to transport students using a GFS mini-bus or van. The schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, departing around 12:35pm and returning by approximately 5-5:15pm. The driver will interact with approximately 14 students per term.
The position runs from now through the end of May, excluding:
- Thanksgiving break
- Winter break
- Spring break
- Exam weeks (mid-January and late May)
- Days with no school or irregular schedules (e.g., class retreats, standardized testing)
- Federal holidays when no students elect to participate
Drop-off and pick-up locations vary based on safety, access, and timing. The driver typically waits at one of the locations between drop-off and pick-up, as parking may not accommodate the mini-bus. Returning to GFS is an option but often timing is too tight. Weather conditions may affect routes or pickup times for safety.
There may be occasional additional driving needs for the Public Health program on other days/times, if the driver is available.
Responsibilities
- Transport students safely using a GFS mini-bus or van
- Interact with students during transit
- Adhere to scheduled departure and return times
- Adjust routes or schedules as needed for safety or logistical reasons
- Occasional additional driving for the Public Health program, if available
Requirements
- Good driving record
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Compliance with MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) regulations for school drivers
- Maintain a driving record in accordance with COMAR (Code of Maryland Regulations)
- Possess or obtain all valid state licenses and certifications to operate company vehicles
- Pass background checks and comply with random screenings
Pay
Hourly rate range: $16-$18/hour, based on experience. Exact compensation will be discussed during the hiring process.

- Part-time, Tuesday–Thursday afternoons
- Departure: ~12:35pm
- Return: ~5-5:15pm
- Excludes school breaks, exam weeks, and holidays as noted
